My favourite mate-in-3 problem

by Junta

To mark the start of the third month of this year, here's my all-time favourite mate-in-3 problem, composed by the famous Sam Loyd.

"Steinitz Gambit"
1st Prize, Checkmate Novelty Tourney, 1903
If you haven't seen it before, try solving it before peeking at the solution (in white) below.

Solution: 1.Ke2!! f1=Q+ (1...f1=N+ 2.Rf2+; 1...Nxb4 2.Bd3+; 1...Bf4 2.Rf7/f8+; 1...Kxe4 2.Bd3+; 1...Kd4 2.Rf4+ etc.) 2.Ke3 and although Black has ten different checks available, White mates next move.
